This story relates to today because just like back then, we are still obsessed with the idea of perfection. We may be more obsessed today with trying to be perfect, and we attempt to correct everything thats wrong with us.

This story relates to today because people are expected to be their best, perfect, mainly women. Most people are obsessed with how they look and almost become self concious because of the public. If people are seen as the wrong image, they may change.

Jeff is right. Everyone is in the pursuit of perfection today. People will stop at nothing to satisfy themselves.

In today's world everyone is expected to be perfert, especialy women. When you open up a magizine the first page you will most likly see will be an advertisement of a half naked, beautiful women, advertising some irrelivant product. The pressure to conform to the strict perfection of society's jusgment is insync with the feelings of the pressure for Gorgiana and her birthmark to mold to her husbands wishes and feelings.

Todays society is obsessed with perfection, mostly about looks with women.

i agree with Jeffery in that humans are bessed with the idea of perfection, and will do anyhing to be perfect (in their mind). millions have been killed in the fight for perfection, yet, everyones idea of perfection is different, so there can never be a comprimise.

this story relates to today because today people are judged by there apperence and who they hangout with. most people are unfairly judged. georgianna was judged by her husbend because of the birthmark and he shuttered when he say it. because of that birthmark georgianna was unhappy and alymer was obsessed with it, to the point where she started to hate it to. today we want to correct the things that we think are wrong with us. its all about body image. that is what is wrong with us today, it should be about someones personalilty and whats in there heart, not what they look like.

This story relates to today because our society is obsessed with trying to be perfect looking. People today resort to plastic surgeries and operations to enhance their looks just like alymer tried to improve georgiana.

This relates to today because people always strive for perfection even if they cannot reach it, and in some cases will do anything to get a step closer. People also often pick people apart into things they like or don't like about a person. They always seem to find something to hate about anything if they focus on it for a while.

It relates to today because people are so focused on appearences. People do anything for perfection. And when someone else comments on your flaws, most people can't brush it off. They feel like they have to fix it to satify themselves, but mostly others.

This relates to today because people are always wanting to change themselfs to achieve perfection. This also relates in a a way where woman want to be perfect because of how men will perceive them.

In addition to what you all mentioned I thinkk it relates to today because people will often "lose" themselves when they're in a relationship. I think that sometimes especially women forget that they don't need to completely change who they are and sacrifice themselves to make someone else happy.

This story is very relevant to today because of the way that everyone strives for perfection in their appearance, and how certain desires often bring out the shallow qualities in people. People need to just be satisfied with themselves, and if they are, than that should be good enough.

The idea of perfection is big in society and in this story. The girl is already beautiful but yet her husband still wants to get rid of her one "bad" birthmark. People have plastic surgery all the time to gid of things like birthmarks to make themselves look better

This story relates to today because everyone constantly strives for perfection. Whether it is possible or not, people are constantly trying to change their image to reflect that of a "perfect" one. Alymer wants to remove Georgiana's birthmark because it will make her perfect. He is willing to do everything including using potions and chemicals whether she is willing to or not. This is an example of the extremes we use today to perfect our image.

This story relates to today because people cant look past small imperfections.

Perfection is more often than not, mis-interpreted as physical superiority, that superiority fitting within a mold of flawless facial features, high cheekbones, fair unblemished skin, stifled laughter, and monotonous pinching of fines lines that naturally glow across agining foreheads.

This story relates to today because it focuses on how society cares so much about appearance. It relates to pretty much any period of time, and to all people, since everyone has dealt with judging others based on appearance (whether they are being judged or are doing the judging). Going back to ancient history, most rulers (queens, kings, etc) and higher beings (gods/goddesses) were commonly described as "beautiful". The villains were most commonly viewed as unattractive and deformed. Today, most people we see in magazines, on TV, in ads, etc, are the typical "perfect beautiful" person and mostly everyone at some point wants to be like these people. It's common now to see people getting plastic surgery done to become perfect, just as the way that Georgiana agrees to "cutting off" her birthmark to become closer to perfect. Therefore, the story relates to today and even the past in a sense that society will always idolize beauty and perfection just as what happens in the story.

This story relates to the modern day living by the need of perfection. However, not everyone is perfect. We grow up having this insecurity about certain things, such as the size of our noses, or how thick we are built, but as time passes we just find that those imperfections are what makes us! Although science has proven that we can easily change those by having a nose-job or a tummy-tuck, but its not the same. Thats like taking something away from who you are, and you can never get it back to the way it was in the beginning. It's better to just be you than to change to become someone who is just pretending it's you!

Today people strive to be perfect as Alymer did, but Aylmer risked his wife and not himself. I find it selfish that he would risk her rather than love her the way she is. People today risk a lot for beauty but hardly ever their lives.

I feel this story ,"The Birthmark", relates to todays lifestyle by how it deals with perfection. Today "perfection" is wanted by almost everyone. People are influenced by the media and feel they need to be like celebrities. "Perfection" is a big part of society and I feel the story is just like life today.

This story relates to today because a lot of people want to be better than they are mostly because of what other people think of them.

This story directly links the obsession over the birthmark to the obsession of overweight people today. Everybody wants to lose weight and go on diets even if they're already a healthy size. In the story, Georgiana is beautiful even with the birthmark and should have no reason to try and rid of it.

This story relates to today because everyone wants to be better than everyone else. We care more about ourselves than we do about others which is terrible in many ways.

I agree with a lot of people and that our society thinks about perfection. I think that the story relates to today, is like what ms.coppens said in class how once you get to know someone so well, you can pick out something about them that you don't think is right or just different in a way and people should relize that nobody is perfect, and you should just accept people for who they are.

Kaylee

This story relates to today by showing how no one is perfect, but yet people are trying to reach perfection, and project that you must be perfect to be accepted.

"The Birthmark" relates to today, because almost everyone is obsessed with the way they look, and usually it's for others opinions. For me, its extremely irrelevant and stupid to care sooooo much about your appearance, that you need to make such a drastic change to such a small feature, such as a "birthmark"

This story can pretty much relate to any time period because it shows how humans are naturally imperfect.
