It is very simple but something that quickly irritated Holden was even eating his breakfast. He had ordered eggs, bacon, toast, orange juice and coffee and he became irritated when he saw that the nuns he was talking to had only toast. "I hate it if I'm eating bacon and eggs or something and somebody else is only eating toast and coffee."(110) I think it is so silly to get aggrivated about something life food.

In the beggining of chapter 14, Holden, talks abou how Jesus' Disciples irritate him. He doesn't like them because he says they don't do anything for Jesus. Also Holden says that they weren't special, but jhust people picked at random, "I said I knew He picked them, but that He picked them at random." (99)

Holden gets very irritated about the amount of people on Broadway. Broadway is a street known all over the world and it is a big tourist attraction, obvioulsly there will be a lot of people there Holden! On page 115 Holden says, "Broadway was mobed and messy..." He describes the situation which he could have known even without going there in the first place.

During the intermition, while Sally and Holden were smoking a cigarette, "George" annoyed Holden to the point of nausea when he described the Lunts as Angels.

"For Chrissake. Angels. That killed me...It was the phoniest conversation you ever heard in your life... I was all set to puke when it was time to go sit down again" (127)

Holden gets really irritated by things. One major irritation for Holden is stuff dealing with movies and acting. In one quote, Holden says,"I couldn't stand looking at them" (116). In this quote, Holden cannot believe that people get so excited when they go to a movie, and when they really want to.

Throughout the book, there are instances where holden simply becomes frustrated over the simplest things. When Ackley is first introduced into the story, everything about him seemed to irritate Holden (who wouldn't feel the same). "He started cutting his nails over the table for a change. The only way he ever did anything was if you yelled at him" (24)

Holden is really easily annoyed by faults in others but tends to forget about his own faults. He has an intent dislike of the word 'grand'.

In chaper 15 holden had called Sally Hays and asked her out to a movie and when sally said "I'd Love to. Grand"(106). in earlier chapters, holden had described how much he hated the word "grand". he thought it was phony.

"I couldn't stand looking at them" (116).
Holden finds the actors annoying and irratating because they are to good at what they do. he thinks it makes them "phony" another word that he cannot stand.

Holden gets very annoyed when he takes sally out on a date, and proceeds to call her a pain in his ass.

"You give me a royal pain in the ass, if you want to know the truth."

"Grand. If there's one word I hate, it's grand. It's so phony."

This shows how irritated Holden gets. Often the things he gets irritated about are as crazy and stupid like this.

Throughout the book Holden mentions how actors are very annoying to him and are aggrivating. Describing the play, Holden says, "They didn't act like people and they din't act like actors. It's hard to explain. They acted more like they knew thhe were celebrities and all." (126) Holden doesn't enjoy when actors seem to know that their excellent at what they do.

its obvious that alot of things irritate Holden. He gets annoyed by cheap suitcases.."It isn't important, I know, but I hate it when somebody has cheap suitcases. It sounds terrible to say it, but I can even get to somebody, just looking at them, if they have cheap suitcases with them."(108)... and even when he eats breakfast he gets annoyed..
"I hate it if I'm eating bacon and eggs or something and somebody else is only eating toast and coffee."(110)

This quote is from Holden's date with Sally, where he really starts to rant about certain things he hates.

"It's full of phonies, and all you do is study enough to be able to buy a goddamn Cadillac some day, and you have to make believe you give a damn if the football team loses, and all you do is talk about girls and liquor and sex all day, and everybody sticks together in these little goddamn cliques."
